The reserve is the township's main and best-known attraction. It has seven open air thermal pools, three sulphur pools and four private thermal pools. Other facilities include sauna and steam rooms, a freshwater heated pool, a large family activity pool with two waterslides, picnic area and licensed café.
You can sit back and relax in natural thermal water, surrounded by towering trees and a mountain backdrop. It's even better in the snow! Therapeutic massage and beauty treatments are available on site at Health, Body and Mind, which employs five full time staff.
At the centre of the village is Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa, so popular that they were voted BEST VISITOR ATTRACTION at the 2004, 2005 and 2006 New Zealand Tourism Awards and also received the coveted Distinction Award in 2006. They're open 10am - 9pm daily, except Christmas Day.
